Death penalty & execution watch

People in Iran who are under a death sentence or at risk of execution, with every status tied to its sources and the date it was last checked.

Urgent — lives at risk

People reported at imminent risk, and people under a death sentence whose cases are marked high priority. Each card shows when the case was last checked.

People under a death sentence

A death sentence has been reported by a source we checked. It is a status that can change.

Reported death sentences that need verification

A report exists, but the court stage or the person’s current situation still has to be confirmed.

Stayed, overturned or under retrial

A stay or a quashed sentence does not always mean a person is safe. These cases stay on the watch.

Executions documented in the last 12 months

An execution is recorded only when two independent rights-group or news sources report it, or an editor gives a written reason.

Earlier documented executions (12)

How this watch works

Every case is checked by a person before it is published. Social-media posts are research leads: they can start a check, but they never set a status on their own.

Sources are counted by independent origin. Ten posts copying one report count as one source. A report whose origin is unknown is not counted as independent.

Each card shows when the case was last checked. A case that has not been checked recently is marked “needs review” — it never means the person is no longer at risk.
