Sasan Jalilian, a man of about 25, was arrested in early spring 2026 while sitting on a park bench, according to rights groups. Agents reportedly searched his phone and Instagram account. Iran Human Rights Society says he is a convert to Christianity and that a post praising Jesus was found on his page, a claim that has not been independently confirmed. He was later brought to Suite 35 of Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj with a serious gunshot wound to his right leg. Two rights groups report that he went about 20 days with little more than dressing changes, and was taken to hospital only after his cellmates protested. No formal charge has been confirmed. Arresting agents reportedly labeled him an apostate, and other accounts link his arrest to religious posts on his social media. No trial or sentence has been reported, and as of the latest report in August 2026 it was unclear whether he had received full treatment.
