Amnesty said that since 8–9 January the authorities had kept a complete internet blackout, deployed heavily armed patrols, imposed night-time curfews and banned gatherings, arrested thousands, and subjected detainees to enforced disappearance and torture including sexual violence, while harassing bereaved families.
