Shahab Zohdi, a 38-year-old motorcycle courier from Tehran, was arrested on 8 January 2026 during the nationwide protests. He has raised his 15-year-old daughter on his own since his wife died when the girl was an infant. Zohdi was one of seven people prosecuted over a fire at a base in eastern Tehran on the night of his arrest. He was charged with moharebeh, efsad-e fel-arz and “assembly and collusion against national security.” On 7 February, Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati, tried the seven together. A source told HRANA the hearing was held without Zohdi’s lawyer present. All seven were sentenced to death the next day, and four of his co-defendants were hanged that spring. In August 2026, the Supreme Court overturned Zohdi’s death sentence and sent his case back to the Revolutionary Court for retrial. He remains in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

Stop the execution of Shahab Zohdi
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing about Shahab Zohdi, who is held in Ghezelhesar Prison in Iran and faces the death penalty (Sentence overturned, sent back for retrial).
I urge you to call on the Iranian authorities to halt this execution at once, quash the death sentence, and grant Shahab Zohdi a fair retrial without recourse to the death penalty, with a lawyer of their choice and no use of forced confessions.

Tell us privately. We check every name before it goes on the site, and we never publish who told us.
A death sentence is a status, not a permanent fact about a person. Every case has a check date and a source, and the earlier status is kept. An execution is recorded only with two independent rights-group or news sources, or with an editor’s written reason.
