Souda (Marzieh) Ebrahimi Shamsabadi, a 32-year-old blogger, was born in Arak, grew up in Tehran, and later settled in Bandar Abbas, where she had built a following of about 10,000 on Instagram. She has lived with multiple sclerosis for around six years. Security forces arrested her on March 29, 2026. She reportedly spent 20 days in solitary confinement, during which her family did not know where she was. The Bandar Abbas Revolutionary Court sentenced her to death for “corruption on earth” (efsad-e fel-arz), on accusations including insulting the Supreme Leader, propaganda against national security, intelligence activity for hostile governments, and photographing a missile strike site and sending the image to Persian-language media abroad. She also received two to five years in prison and confiscation of her property. Her lawyer was informed of the death sentence on August 23. Her appeal is now before Branch 41 of the Supreme Court, and she remains in Bandar Abbas Central Prison, where she has reportedly been denied specialist medical care.

A death sentence is a status, not a permanent fact about a person. Every case has a check date and a source, and the earlier status is kept. An execution is recorded only with two independent rights-group or news sources, or with an editor’s written reason.
