Mehdi Arabzadeh, 25, is a resident of Ziar in the Bara’an-e Jonubi district of Isfahan Province. He was detained in connection with the January 2026 nationwide protests and has been sentenced to death. He and his brother Akbar, 29, were among those detained after the protests of January 8–9, 2026. Security forces arrested the two brothers on January 10, 2026, in the Chamran area of Isfahan. Iran Human Rights gives a different account of the arrest location, reporting that they were taken at their family home and held by intelligence services for three months. After interrogation, they were moved to Isfahan’s Dastgerd Prison. A Revolutionary Court sentenced both brothers to death on the charge of moharebeh (“enmity against God”), and the charges against them also reportedly include setting fire to a Basij building. According to Hengaw, Iran’s Supreme Court has upheld both death sentences.

Stop the execution of Mehdi Arabzadeh
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing about Mehdi Arabzadeh, who is held in Isfahan Central Prison in Iran and faces the death penalty (Sentenced to death).
I urge you to call on the Iranian authorities to halt this execution at once, quash the death sentence, and grant Mehdi Arabzadeh a fair retrial without recourse to the death penalty, with a lawyer of their choice and no use of forced confessions.

A death sentence is a status, not a permanent fact about a person. Every case has a check date and a source, and the earlier status is kept. An execution is recorded only with two independent rights-group or news sources, or with an editor’s written reason.
