Shervin Bagherian Jebeli, a high school student from Isfahan born in 2007, turned 18 just days before his arrest. According to Iran International, he was identified during the January 8, 2026 protests, and a few days later around 15 security agents raided his home at midnight and arrested him after beating him severely. His family had no news of him for a week. A week after his arrest, a forced confession was extracted from him on the “Shock” program on state TV Channel 3, which aired before any trial. The Iran Human Rights Documentation Center reported that he was subjected to severe torture and forced to confess to killing Basij forces. Amnesty International was told he was forcibly disappeared for 21 days and beaten. He was prosecuted in the “Alikhani Square” case, in which defendants were accused of involvement in the killing of four security force members, as well as arson and vandalism. He was sentenced to death together with 11 others in a single closed-door hearing by Branch One of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court on charges of moharebeh (enmity against God) and efsad-fil-arz (corruption on earth). Some rights groups report he received two death sentences. The Supreme Court upheld the sentence, and he was moved to solitary confinement in Dastgerd Prison in July 2026. He was reportedly scheduled to be executed publicly on July 28, 2026 along with two other defendants, but he suffered a medical episode while being transferred and was taken to hospital. He was returned to prison several days later, and his death sentence remains in place.

A death sentence is a status, not a permanent fact about a person. Every case has a check date and a source, and the earlier status is kept. An execution is recorded only with two independent rights-group or news sources, or with an editor’s written reason.
