Esmail Ramezanpour, 38, is originally from Fars province and lives in Yazd. Security forces arrested him in Yazd during the January 2026 nationwide protests; Iran Human Rights puts the date at January 10. Rights groups say he was held for about three months in a security detention center, where he was tortured to extract a confession, before being moved to Yazd Central Prison. Branch 1 of the Yazd Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death on charges of moharebeh (“enmity against God”), assembly and collusion against national security, and intentional destruction of public property, accusing him of setting fire to the Yazd municipality building. He was denied a lawyer of his own choosing. His family says he did not take part in the protests and that the charges against him are fabricated. As of October 2026, he remains on death row in Yazd Central Prison. Reports conflict on whether the Supreme Court has ruled on his case.

Stop the execution of Esmail Ramezanpour
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing about Esmail Ramezanpour, who is held in Yazd Central Prison in Iran and faces the death penalty (Sentenced to death).
I urge you to call on the Iranian authorities to halt this execution at once, quash the death sentence, and grant Esmail Ramezanpour a fair retrial without recourse to the death penalty, with a lawyer of their choice and no use of forced confessions.

A death sentence is a status, not a permanent fact about a person. Every case has a check date and a source, and the earlier status is kept. An execution is recorded only with two independent rights-group or news sources, or with an editor’s written reason.
