Their story

Abolfazl Zare Baghkameh was 18 and lived in Isfahan. At about 8:30 p.m. on 9 January 2026 (19 Dey 1404) he was out with his mother in the Khane Isfahan area, helping people who had been wounded, when he was shot in front of her. His mother said the bullet hit him from behind; other accounts say he was hit in the chest. She got him to Gharazi Hospital, but from there he disappeared. Security agents kept the family out, and the hospital said no one matching his description had been brought in. After days of searching, his family found his body at Isfahan's Bagh-e Rezvan cemetery, registered under someone else's name and about to be buried. The body was badly swollen and his face had changed. According to accounts sent to Iran International, it had been kept in a fruit-market cold store. He was buried in Behesht-e Ahmadi cemetery in Shiraz. At the graveside his mother gave him a military salute and asked the mourners to sing "Ey Iran". She has since kept his memory public through campaigns for the families of those killed.

Their narrative
