The Iran Massacre is a searchable record of the people killed in the crackdown on Iran's protests of December 2025 and January 2026, above all in the massacre of 8 and 9 January. We don't produce our own death toll. We bring together the lists published by human rights organisations and media, merge duplicate names, and show for every person which sources recorded them.

The Iranian government's own list is used only as a cross-check. If a name also appears there, the record says so, but that list never counts as confirmation on its own.
Lists compiled by AI tools or by crowdsourcing are treated as leads. No name is published on the strength of such a list; every row has to be matched to a source that can be checked.
What we cannot prove
The internet blackout, deleted videos, incomplete access for families, and conflicting reports are not filled in by guessing. If two sources give a different city or age, the disagreement stays on the record.

Matching
Names are matched using normalised Persian and English spellings together with city and age, so that, for example, different spellings of Mohammad or Alireza are recognised as the same name. Certain matches merge automatically; anything uncertain is checked by a person first.
Privacy and family safety
We publish only what rights organisations or families have already made public. We never publish home addresses, national ID numbers or details of relatives. Families who want a record corrected or taken down can use this form; the record is hidden straight away while we check.
