Abolfazl Sepahi Badjani

Abolfazl Sepahi Badjani, born in 1382 (2003–04), was a 23-year-old construction worker in Isfahan. His father is a plasterer. Two weeks before his arrest he had finally managed to buy a motorbike after a long time saving. According to a source close to his family, he went out in the January 2026 protests over rising prices, was shot in the leg, and was later arrested at home; the source says he was never at Alikhani Square. He was nonetheless made a defendant in the Alikhani Square case, in which the authorities accused protesters of killing four police officers on 8 January, and he was sentenced to death three times. Rights groups say detainees in the case were pressured to testify against one another, and a family source said he and his cousin Alireza Sepahi were tortured in front of Alireza's mother and sister to force confessions. His family, who struggle to cover basic expenses, paid a lawyer 12 gold coins, but even the lawyer could not fully see the case file. At his last family visit he said he had hoped to see his sister married and become an uncle, and that he was in love with a girl. As an agent filmed the visit, he shouted at the camera: "I am innocent." He was hanged in public at dawn on 28 July 2026 (6 Mordad 1405) near Alikhani Square in Isfahan, alongside Amirhossein Safari, while people gathered in the streets to try to stop the executions. His grave lies in the desert near the village of Davaran in Isfahan province. His cousin Alireza was executed on 5 October.
