Why the numbers differ

None of the existing lists is complete. The blackout, pressure on families, hurried or secret burials, and different definitions of “killed in the protests” produce different figures. This archive does not add those figures together or average them. A number published by a source stays with that organisation’s name and date, separate from the count of names on this site.

Execution cases

A death sentence is a status, not a permanent attribute. Every case has a check date and a source. The previous status is kept.
