Their story

Alireza Bagheri Manjili, a 25-year-old from Manjil in Gilan Province, was an industrial safety engineer and a conscript serving at the local navy base. He was the only child of parents who had waited about twenty years for him; his father, Dr. Mohammad Bagheri, worked in health services in Rasht. A dedicated athlete and Persepolis supporter, he regularly traveled to Azadi Stadium for major matches, including derbies and Asian fixtures, and dreamed of playing professionally on that pitch. He once sent his parents a video from the stadium saying, “Look, Mom, Dad—what if I could play here on this field.” On the evening of 19 Dey 1404 (9 January 2026), during protests on Manjil’s main street opposite Bank Tejarat, he was shot dead by security forces with live ammunition. His mother witnessed the bullet strike him, and his father, who had accompanied him into the streets, also saw him die. His killing is confirmed in human rights documentation, including HRANA’s Crimson Winter report.

Their narrative
