Their story

On the evening of 8 January 2026, the streets of Fardis in Karaj filled with protesters who no longer wanted the Islamic Republic to continue. Chants of “Javid Shah,” “Death to the dictator,” and “This is the last battle, Pahlavi will return” rose through the night. The gatherings had grown after Reza Pahlavi’s call for people to take to the streets on 8 and 9 January. Faezeh Mosta’an, a 20-year-old girl from Hashtgerd, was among them. She had come to Fardis that night to stand with others who were openly rejecting the regime. A live round, fired from the rooftop of a nearby building with a military weapon, struck her in the chest and killed her. The shot opened her chest and stopped the heart of a young woman who had only just begun to live. After the shooting, people who were present wrapped her body in a blanket and carried it into the parking area of a building so that security forces could not seize it. Her family had lost contact with her and were searching the area. Eventually they were directed to the place where her body was being kept. Her father arrived quickly, found his daughter, and took her into his arms. They brought her home, the same house where, only hours earlier, the family had been waiting for her to return. Faezeh’s mother refused to let go. She held her daughter’s body through the night and into the early hours of the morning, unwilling to be separated from her. Only around dawn was the body taken for examination. Two days later it was returned for burial. At the funeral, the mother collapsed into a coma; the ceremony continued without her.

Their narrative
